REUNION and Celebration of 100 Years at RAE

during

Air Show 2010

Hello Fellow Ex-Apprentices

It is Air Show Year again and as this is our 100 Year Anniversary we are planning to have a reunion on the Saturday 24th July 2010 in Farnborough to take in our old haunts and to get access and enjoy the Air Show.

We would like to ask those that visit this site to e-mail me (Michael) if you wish to be kept informed, whether you wish to go and if you would volunteer as a steward.

We are planning to use Car Parking space in the College from 9:00 am and then visit the FAST exhibition and Farnborough College of Technology. We are organising a buffet lunch for late morning at the college and then on to the Air Show.

Update 24th April

We are now in final negotiations with the college, we expect car parking, security and lunch will be a very good price. We will be announcing it formally here in a few days which will show we have obtained really good value for money. We are expecting that the weather will hold out as it is July and we will be able to enjoy the fresh air, the ambiance and atmosphere that will take us on a memory trip of our youth. We are receiving E-mails daily from ex-apprentices (from all over the place) who want to come to this event. So very shortly we will be in a position to give you a final price and will be able to accept your bookings and payment. Keep sending those E-mails and we will keep you informed.

Update 16th April

Early interest is very positive and we now have a good list of Ex-Apprentices (we will publish names and years sometime soon) who are looking forward to attending the event on Saturday 24th July in Farnborough. To make this event really memorable we need as many Ex-Apprentices as we can get, we would like to see around 1000 people attend so the more the merrier and do not forget we should thank those that prepared us for the big wide world. So, if there is any of our old Apprentice Masters out there who would like to come I am sure you Ex-Apprentices would agree that we look forward to seeing them too

.UPDATE 24th March 2010

John Girvan has been to see Christine Davis Principal Farnborough College of Technology and Christine has agreed in principle to Car Park Space, Tea and Coffee and a Buffet Lunch at “COST”. Further information will be posted later after further negotiation and contact.

We are looking for Sponsors of the Buffet Lunch, so if you have influence in any organisation that would like to show support to the RAE Ex-Apprentices please contact me. It is now more important than ever to find one or more sponsor/s of this event. Anyone who can offer a contact please get in touch as soon as possible it is only 4 months away!!!! We do not want to have any charge on this event if we can help it and will be keeping costs to a minimum, so we need your HELP NOW!

The intention is to enable as many ex-apprentices as possible to attend, regardless of year and they can be One Apprentice with up to 3 family members to be welcomed to the Reunion.

We are in contact with Farnborough International LTD and are hopeful they will look on us favourably regarding tickets.

Update 11th April 2010

We have had a meeting on Friday 9th April and are now on a mission to get as many apprentices to show intent as possible, so that we can plan for the group size. I have always stated that I am looking towards more than 500 heads and possibly up to 1000 is what we should aim for. We have discussed cost and can only tell you that we are aiming for about £5 to cover the security and parking aspects and then £5 for the buffet lunch. Any charge by Farnborough International would have to be on top of those numbers as a charge per individual. These numbers are dependent on numbers attending and what we can negotiate with Farnborough Tech and FI. Also, we would like to find a sponsor to reduce any costs to each and all apprentices attending

It is very important that all Apprentices of every year who are looking at this web site should contact as many others as is possible and get back to me at my email address.

There will be the need for security passes and other documents to enable easy entry to the College Car Park and other places so it is essential that you keep us informed of where any documents will be sent either email or snail mail.

  • So very important actions for you all are:
  • Please respond whether you wish to attend and an idea of party size
  • Please respond stating whether you can offer your services as a Steward
  • Have you any contacts that would be interested in sponsoring any of the event?
  • Please pass on the information of this event to other RAE Ex-Apprentices
  • Have you any additions or suggestions for this event we should consider?

There is not much time to get this organised so please get back to me as soon as possible and we will do our best to keep you informed and assuming we are successful in organising this event I and all the other Apprentices that attend look forward to seeing you there.

Please send e-mails to Michael and I look forward to your replies

Best wishes to you all

My personal recommendation is that all ex-Apprentices should be members of FASTA. I went and viewed the FAST Exhibition on Saturday 10th April 2010 for the First time and have become a Life Member in appreciation of what they have done and what they are doing and what they intend to do. My Personal Statement.
